Research

Video References

We researched on several videos and movie trailers that are similar to our ideas and concepts. We observed  the angles and skills they used to filmed the videos. We learnt a lot from the references we used. All the videos here are taken from Youtube.

1) A Christmas Carol

This movie is quite similar to our movie. It also talks about the beauty of life. However, we did not manage to create the fantasy effects such flying in our movie trailer.

2) Edward's Scissorhands

This movie is considered as a fantasy but not much fantasy elements were used in it. So, we take it as an example for our movie trailer.

3) Les Miserable

We found that the shooting angle of this movie are veery interesting. We tried to learnt from it.

4) Le Papillon

A French movie that is quite similar to our concepts. It also talks about the journey between a girl with an old man (the mysterious man in our original idea is an old man).

5) 49 days

We use this teaser as a reference for our mysterious man.

6) Alice Through The Looking Glass

We want to find out how to film a fantasy trailer by referencing on a fantasy genre film's trailer.

7) Happy Together

This movie consists of a lot of beautiful shots which we can learn about it.

8) Pan's Labyrinth

Take this video as a reference for fantasy elements.

9) The Tree Of Life

Use this video as a reference because it has great camera angles.

10) Depression-Motivational Video

This movie also has suicide scenes, which is similar to our story.

11) Amelie

Character References

The mysterious and experimental scene from Amelie are something that we want to achieve.

For the mysterious man, we thought that he should be a gentleman old man, like Hayao Miyazaki.

However, we decided to change the image of the mysterious man because we can't find an actor that suits this character. After researching, we think that L from Death Note suits our concept. So, we decided to follow the character of L.

Audio References

We did a in-depth research for the background music.  It may looks easy but we found that this is actually the hardest part of this assignment. First, we have to set the mood of this trailer. After editing, it turns out our trailer possessed a nerve-racking ambient. We searched for instrumental musics ( we think that music with people singing at the back might be a distraction) that gives out a fantasy and magical feeling. Besides background music, we also searched for sound effects such as thunder, church bell,  pixie dust and etc. Here are some of our music references. We can't put everything here because it's too much! ( All videos are taken from Youtube)

1) Harry Potter Theme Song

Originally, we decided to use this music as our background music but we didn't do it because we thought that the popularity of this song is too high and everyone will recognise it.

2) Oz- Fireside Dance

3) A Christmas Carol-- Marley's Ghost Visits Scrooge

4) You're Beautiful--Dark Angel

5)Temptation ost

6) Secret Garden-- Main Title

7) Secret Garden-- Lovely Oscar

8)  Alice In Wonderland Theme

9)  Sodagreen-- No.8

10) Munshishi-- Sugame No Uo

11) Munshishi-- Kehai

12) Child Of Light-- Off To Sleep

13) Alice Madness Return Vale Of Tears

14) The Tudors-- Wolsey Commits Suicide

15) Nine Times Travel-- Love Theme

16) Typewritter Sound Effect

Originally, we will be typing out our movie title by using the crop effect in Adobe Premiere Pro. So, we will need the typewriter sound effect for this.

17) Thunder Sound Effect

18) Pixie Dust Sound Effect

19) Church Bell Sound Effect

20) Clock Ticking Sound Effect

Text References

For the title, we downloaded the Adobe After Effect software and followed the tutorials from Youtube to create a smoke typography. We thought that this effect might helped to enhance the magical ambient of the whole trailer.

We brain-stormed ourselves for the voice-overs and words shown in the trailer.
